Medieval Barbute

A barbute is a war helmet used in 15th century .It has Italian design with distinctive “T” shaped or “Y” shaped opening for eyes and mouth.

The striking feature of the barbute is the shape of helmet which extends all the way down to cover both sides of the face, irrespective of it being “T” or “Y” shaped.Barbute was usually worn with stiffened mail collar  to protect neck and throat.This made wearing gorget(used for neck protection) as optional.

Barbute was produced using single sheet of steel which was molded into desired shape.
