Indena announced the opening of a new affiliate in São Paulo, Brazil called Indena Brasil Ltda. This new affiliate will play a key role in enhancing the company’s direct presence in Brazil and, strategically, overall in Latin America.
The high demand of studies on Asian skin has pushed testing company CIDP to emphasize the recruitment of specific panels. Now, CIDP has a database of Chinese and Japanese panels through its Mauritian and Brazilian subsidiaries, and the company also plans to strengthen its offering thanks to the opening, in 2015, of a new subsidiary in Malaysia, joining its research centers in Brazil, France, Romania, India and Mauritius.
Symrise saw a successful start into the fiscal year 2014. It increased sales to €470 million in the first quarter, and as Q1 2013 sales were €458 million, adjusted for currency translation effects, sales recorded an increase by 8%.
Clariant announced first quarter 2014 sales from continuing operations of CHF1.492 billion compared to CHF1.526 billion in the first quarter of 2013. This corresponds to an increase of 5% in local currencies. The 5% organic sales growth was driven by 4% higher volumes and an increase in prices of 1%.
Coptis is set to launch its Coptis Tab at the NYSCC Suppliers’ Day 2014 event. It is a mobile module for Coptis Lab that beauty product developers and formulators can use to manage specific RD data at the bench. It works to identify raw materials (RM code, risk phrases, CMR warning, lots, labeling, LDU, etc.), weigh (RM identification, sample and stock management), and offer test results synchronization with the Coptis Lab Test module. With Brazil in the spotlight, the NYSCC 2014 Supplier’s Day will dedicate a day of seminars to explore opportunities for beauty manufacturers in the Brazilian cosmetic market.
Beraca International North America’s business director, Dawn Thiel Glaser will open the event with a presentation, “Cosmetics in Contemporary Brazil,” to be held on May 12, 2014, in the Renaissance Woodbridge Hotel. She will explore Brazil’s biological and ethnic diversity, the importance of its natural resources, and the regulatory issues that impact the cosmetic industry in Brazil. She will also share relevant market figures for companies interested in entering or expanding their presence in the Brazilian market, as well as the changing perception and buying behavior of Brazilian women. The company also will showcase its Patauá Oil, a moisturizing hair and skin care ingredient, at the event.
Brookfield Engineering announced its the Quick 5-Point Flow Function Test is now integrated into Powder Flow Pro Software, version 1.3. This quick new test can be accomplished in about 16 minutes as compared to the Standard 5-Point Flow Function Test, which takes about 25 minutes to complete.

An extensive anti-aging clinical study done with IBR’s phytoene and phytofluene product IBR-TCLC conducted to evaluated phytoene and phytofluene anti-aging efficacy using 1.5% IBR-TCLC in a simple create-gel saw excellent results, confirming IBR-TCLC actives work well for anti-aging wrinkle reduction and protection against sun and oxidative damage.
In support of its expanding personal care business, Innospec added three new formulation chemists. Ken Haun was appointed formulation and application manager, personal care, North America. He will be responsible for managing the technical support and lab activities for the America’s personal care business. Amanda Deaner joins the company as a senior formulation chemist, personal care, North America, bringing her 13+ years of personal care industry experience as an RD lab manager to the role. And Gregory Pum was named the position of senior formulation chemist, personal care, US. He will be responsible for providing technical support for the personal care business, including the recently acquired Chemsil and Chemtec businesses.
Gattefossé USA announced the addition of Sebastien Massard to its U.S. team as a technical marketing support leader for the personal care division. He has several years of experience in marketing and sales, and has contributed to the successful growth of several specialty ingredients lines at Baker Hughes (New Phase Technology) and Rhodia.
Beraca announced the hire of Nadabia Helland as a customer service and inside sales representative. Helland joins Beraca with a PhD in pharmacology and experience as a pharmacist and a professor. She will work in Beraca’s Midwest office in Eagan, Minnesota.
Desert Whale Jojoba Company presented Jojoba Scrubeads, a sustainable and biodegradable response to polyethylene (PE) beads used in beauty products. This product addresses the growing concern over mounting data showing PE beads may have damaging effects on the environment. Jojoba Scrubeads are created from a combination of castor oil and jojoba wax, as jojoba is an oil extracted from the seeds of a desert shrub. Benefits include a natural polyethylene replacement, the ability to soften and smooth skin’s surface, accelerate skin’s natural renewal process, and renew and polish skin texture. At the 2014 NYSCC Suppliers’ Day event, AkzoNobel will feature introductions in grooming, hair care, hairstyling, sun care and skin care, as well as its Male Essentials program, a six-step approach to daily “man-tenance.” The program helps offer a daily grooming regimen consisting of a range of products based on formulations that will appeal to a man’s need for more speed and convenience, quality aesthetics and high performance from start to finish. Additionally, the company will highlight two polymers that will enable product developers and formulators to create a broad range of effective sun care products, both sunscreen emulsions and ethanol-based; two new naturally based, multifunctional conditioners with cationic character and unique structures that make them substantive to both hair and skin; and a new multifunctional polymer for hairstyling applications.
Also at the 2014 NYSCC Suppliers’ Day event, CareSil will feature its CareSil CES ingredient, a silicone encapsulated in a water medium. This technology allows silicone and water to coexist without the use of irritating surfactants. It delivers ease of formulation, a novel sensory feel and a very unique delivery method.
