Croda launched Formulating with Brazil in Mind, a new promotional kit featuring market-relevant formulations to aid its customers in creating beauty and personal care products most suited to the Brazilian market. The kit features Croda’s recent innovations in color cosmetics, combing creams, and sensory-appealing skin and sun care solutions.
The Lubrizol Corporation announced the groundbreaking of a major surfactant plant expansion in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Strategically located in Belford Roxo, the new unit is designed to meet the growing demand for beauty, personal and home care products in the Brazilian market. The estimated investment in the new plant totals more than $20 million dollars and will feature some of the latest equipment in the industry.
AAK announced the opening of its new Personal Care Innovation Lab in San Jose, California. The new facility is designed to support the growing demand for highly functional natural products and delivers AAK’s expertise to the design of high performing cosmetic formulations.
Clariant inaugurated enhancements to its production capabilities and service support for its customers in Indonesia and Southeast Asia and Pacific (SEAP) at an official ceremony at its Tangerang site. The significant increase in production capacity and upgrading of local facilities is being used to better support the strong growth in demand for pigments, masterbatches, personal care, home care and industrial care ingredients in local and overseas markets.
Salvona Technologies relocated to a new facility in Hamilton, New Jersey. The technology-based company offers nano- and microsphere delivery systems infused with active ingredients for unique beneﬁts. Salvona’s new 57,000-square-foot building offers cGMP capabilities, with ﬁve unit operations, three pilot production areas, a 25,000-square-foot warehouse, cold room, and an 8,000-square-foot laboratory. The GLP laboratory accommodates skin testing and includes in-vitro and microbiology labs.
Evolva announced it will collaborate with Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) to establish a scientific Centre of Excellence for natural products from Malaysia as part of the Flavor and Fragrance Cluster in the state of Pahang. The Centre of Excellence, which is being facilitated by the Malaysian Biotechnology Corporation (BiotechCorp), under Malaysia’s flagship Bioeconomy Transformation Programme, Bio-Accelerators for Technology Development and Innovation, will focus on the development of natural compounds using Evolva’s yeast fermentation production platform. The goal is to create a new paradigm in the sustainable production of Malaysia’s high value indigenous natural products.
At the 2014 MakeUp in Paris event, Univar showcased a range of innovative textures based around the theme “Sweety Pop-Up.” Innovations on display included External Exotic Tattoo, an extremely long-lasting, tattoo effect eye shadow that uses Dow Corning MQ-1640 Flake Resin, a unique blend of MQT Propyl silicone resins that provides a durable and flexible film on the skin, with outstanding wash-off and transfer resistance; Dow Corning EL-7040 Hydro Elastomer Blend, which It boasts enhanced formulation compatibility with organic ingredients compared to traditional silicone elastomers; two Pink Wizard formulations that match the concept of silky sweets (Pink Wizard is a silky anhydrous coloured wax that melts on skin during application and uses Dow Corning 2503 Cosmetic Wax); and Coloured Trampoline, a ludic BB jelly-cream (oil-in-water emulsion) that has a bouncy marshmallow-like effect when handled, due to the use of Aculyn 28. When applied to the skin, the addition of Dow Corning EL-9240 Silicone Elastomer Blend provides a luxurious feel.

Azelis Canada announced the appointment of Frans J. des Tombe as managing director. He replaced Tony Craske, who will now be based in Europe as international business director for Azelis Personal Care.
