Eagle Feather, Folding Knife, is a trigger assisted pocket knife folder, with the handle designed in form of an Eagle Feather.
To many native American Indians, an eagle’s feather is an epitome of magical power. They use the eagle feathers for their traditional war bonnets, or the head-gear, since they believe that an eagle is the greatest and most powerful of all birds. Feathered war bonnets are ceremonial headgear, which, in the past, were worn into battle. They are seen as epitome of spiritual and magical strength.
The bonnet was considered to be a mark of great respect because it could only be worn with the consent of the village elders. Each feather in the bonnet had to be earned through commendable deeds in battle, and signified an event of glory. Once a tribesman earned about 10 feathers, he went out to secure the eagle feathers for making his bonnet. All feathers earned, were notched and decorated to make the war bonnet, and each feather was chronologically laid out to describe and designate an event of glory or victory.
In some tribes the feathers had to be purchased from an individual, who was given special permission to hunt the bird; a tail of twelve perfect feathers could easily be bartered for a good horse.
Amongst some other tribes, a warrior was permitted to hunt his own eagles. This involved travel to the high country, the native eagle countryside, where the bird could be found. Ceremonies were performed by the hunter to appeal to the spirits of the birds to be killed.
